Catholic Charities will open a new St. Augustine Family Center on May 18, more than doubling its meal service capacity and expanding programs for local families.

CLEVELAND , Ohio - Catholic Charities will open a new St. Augustine Family Center on May 18, more than doubling its meal service capacity and expanding programs for local families.

The new center, located steps from the original hunger center that served the community for decades, will offer double the meals and 20 percent more services than the previous location, according to Heather Stoll with Catholic Charities.

“We have our kitchen which is right behind me, our new community room, and then we have a number of programs and services, including programs for those with disabilities, and then we also have behavioral health services and job and career training,” Stoll said. The new center will serve as a central access point where people can receive meals, connect with job training programs, access behavioral health services and find support for disabilities.

“So we are able to serve double the meals in this new location, and on the service side we are able to increase our services by 20 percent,” Stoll said. The renovation was funded through private donations. Stoll said the community support reflects the need for expanded services in the area.

“It is obviously an honor to have these donations and it really speaks to community need, because our donors are seeing the need and they want to partner with us to accomplish that mission,” Stoll said. The organization has also served the community for more than 50 years.

“So this is a new chapter with a new space and broader services, and so trying to be a point of access and welcoming is my hope,” Stoll said. Holy Name High School teacher on administrative leave due to ‘poor judgment’
