Eyewitness account and surveillance footage of the incident where a black Nissan hit a 13-year-old boy on an e-scooter, leaving both the scooter and the car damaged at Van Kirk Street.
Sunday, May 17, 2026 3:37AMA 13-year-old boy is recovering at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia after police say he was struck by a vehicle Saturday evening in the city's Summerdale section.
Police said the teenager was riding an e-scooter on Oxford Avenue around 5:40 p.m. when he veered through traffic in an attempt to cross the street and was hit by an oncoming black Nissan. Surveillance video captured the crash. Neighbors said they were relieved to learn the boy's condition had improved to stable condition after police initially listed as critical.
"It was pretty heartbreaking," one neighbor said. "That makes me feel happy because he had god with him. God stuck by his side.
"Both the scooter and the car came to a stop near Van Kirk Street, and the Nissan's windshield was left shattered. One neighbor urged riders to "pay attention and stay in the bike lane to stop this from happening.
""I think we should just put a stop sign right there at that specific area to at least let the people know to be cautious and slow down," the neighbor said. The crash investigation division is handling the case.
