DOTHAN , Ala. - Top Chef winner Kelsey Clark had her two children in her vehicle when she crashed into a brick mailbox while allegedly drunk, according to two officials familiar with the incident. The Department of Human Resources responded to the crash scene on Selkirk Drive but allowed the children to leave with a family member, the sources told WTVY News4 on the condition of anonymity.
Dothan police charged Clark with DUI, alleging she had consumed an illegal amount of alcohol before the Wednesday night crash. “We received a call regarding a vehicle striking the mailbox in the 1300 block of Selkirk Drive. Our officers who responded to the scene determined that Clark was under the influence,” Dothan police Lt. Scott Owens said.Having a child under 14 in a vehicle while driving under the influence is considered an aggravated circumstance under Alabama law, but without injury, authorities rarely seek a DUI charge enhancement.
