A Utah family recounts the terrifying experience of a group of individuals attempting to kick in their front door. The husband's shout to grab a gun reportedly caused the intruders to flee. The incident has left the family shaken and the police are investigating.
A family was left shaken up after they said a group of people tried to kick in their door. Last Friday night, the group reportedly tried to break in but ran after the husband yelled at his wife to grab a gun. 'I put my hands like this and just pushed against the door,” said Jeff Pratt, showing how he braced against the door while it was kicked.
After hearing some commotion outside, Jeff said he looked out his window and saw someone between 16 and 20 years old put on a ski mask and approach his door with two others.He braced against the door as it was kicked multiple times, hard enough to break it open. 'You can see the crack running from here and down,” he said, pointing to the door frame. They were able to screw in a piece of wood to keep it closed and locked.
'I said, ‘Get the gun,’ and that's when the kicking stopped,” he said.“It's your worst nightmare,” she said. Carlee was upstairs with their two young daughters at the time. Thankfully, the girls were sleeping as this all went down, but it left the family distraught.
The couple said it's slightly comforting to know that these people might not have had any intention of entering their home, but at the same time, it feels dismissive of their experience when people tell them that. “Because I had no idea, never did it cross my mind that this was a prank. That's not a prank in my eyes,” Jeff said. “That’s somebody coming in to do harm.”
Tooele Police said that they have an open case on this, and there's nothing to indicate this is a widespread issue. They said it appears to be a singular incident. The couple is hoping to find out who did this and why they chose their house.
