Organized by NBC 5, Telemundo 39, and Stage West Theatre, this two-day festival will feature 30 plays, scenes, and monologues written by young playwrights aged 8 to 18. These captivating stories, brought to life by local students, promise to leave a lasting impression on audiences. The festival will run from May 2 to May 3, with programming divided into two distinct time slots each day.
The Youth Show, a 30-minute performance at 2:00 p.m., will showcase plays written and performed by elementary school students. The Teen Show, a 90-minute performance at 5:00 p.m., will feature works by and starring high school students, with a PG-13 rating. The same lineup will be presented on both days, ensuring that attendees can choose the most convenient time to experience the festival.
The plays included in the Festival of the Kid were selected from Stage West’s 2025 Neighborhood Play Contest, a competition that encourages young writers to explore their creativity and develop their storytelling skills. This contest, along with generous grant funding from Stage West, provides the necessary resources to support and nurture the next generation of playwrights. The Lobby Cafe will be open with a limited menu from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. and during festival intermissions, offering refreshments for attendees.
