Head to ASU FIDM for a '90s-inspired dance celebration, move to Trixie Mattel at The Autry , and join a festivity for the youngsters at Kidspace Children's MuseumFrom"Morning Becomes Eclectic" to"Jason Bentley's Metropolis" to"Soundtrips," the playlists created for riding the Metro, iconoclastic radio station KCRW regularly delivers fabulous flows and avant garde tunes to help us through our days and evenings.
But sometimes? We want to go to where the music is, and in the summertime, the sounds of KCRW can very often be found at a local museum, food festival, aquarium, park, plaza, or train station.
The name of the series we're mooning over is well-loved and well-known by anyone eager to A) not spend money and B) fill up on an atmospheric scene full of terrific music and people dancing and community camaraderie: It'sThat"big, big" part isn't going too far: Nearly 20 locations are on the list for the summer of 2026, with a visit to Santa Ana and the Bowers Museum, two visits to the California African American Museum in Exposition Park, and a '90s-themed dance night at ASU FIDM Museum in DTLA in honor of the"Obsessed: Fashion and Nostalgia in the '90s" exhibit.
A June 6 gathering at the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium in San Pedro will put the spotlight on ocean wonders, while the Aug. 14 event at the Wende Museum in Culver City will feature a Night Market curated by Good Food. And the festivity at La Brea Tar Pits June 12? This is one of the last chances to live large at the fossils-filled museum before the science institution shutters for a two-year update.
