Southwest Airlines, the largest carrier at the local airport, is refusing to sign a new 10-year lease agreement, even after new offer with more money
A city delegation that included Mayor Ron Nirenberg and City Manager Erik Walsh traveled to Southwest Airlines ’ Dallas headquarters on Tuesday looking to entice the carrier to sign a long-term lease agreement at San Antonio International — and end a standoff that could hurt both parties. It didn’t work. In fact, Southwest’s top executives threatened to sue, according to a memo Walsh wrote to City Council on Wednesday.
Slap in the face:' San Antonio Airport-Southwest standoff could hurt both sides Walsh said Southwest’s general counsel sent a letter to the city prior to Tuesday's meeting arguing that the lease negotiation process was “unlawful.” “The City believes Southwest’s claims are meritless, and we expressed disappointment that Southwest was considering litigation,” Walsh said.
