District officials said the students who were diagnosed with active tuberculosis are receiving medical care, are not on campus, and will not return until cleared by a physician or Harris County Public Health , in accordance with state health regulations. Parents of students who shared a class with the affected students have been notified due to potential exposure. Officials emphasized that tuberculosis is not transmitted through casual contact, such as walking past someone in a hallway, and typically requires prolonged, close contact in an enclosed setting to be transmitted. HCPH officials are conducting contact tracing to identify and notify anyone who may have had prolonged close contact with one of the students. Due to privacy laws, the district said it could not disclose any information that could potentially identify the students.
