) - The Alabama Crimson Tide will officially be turning to a new man behind center entering the 2026 season, as quarterback Ty Simpson is going pro. Multiple sources, including ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel and On3’s Pete Nakos , are reporting that the 23-year-old redshirt junior informed Tide coaches Wednesday that he will be declaring for the upcoming NFL Draft.
Simpson posted strong numbers during his lone season leading the Alabama offense, passing for 3,567 yards with 28 touchdowns and five interceptions, leading the Crimson Tide to their first College Football Playoff appearance under second-year head coach Kalen DeBoer, which ended this past Thursday with a 38-3 New Year’s Day loss to top seed Indiana in the Rose Bowl.Following the CFP quarterfinal loss, which saw Simpson suffer a rib injury and exit the game after just one drive in the second half against the Hoosiers, multiple sources indicated that the quarterback was evaluating his future. The former five-star recruit from Martin, Tennessee is considered to be one of the top quarterbacks available in the upcoming pro draft class.
