UK hospitality boss Kate Allen warns that tourism in Britain is being fatally affected due to the proposed holiday levy and adds that the hospitality industry is already taxed to high heaven and the proposed levy could be catastrophic for holiday destinations such as Devon and Cornwall. She is joined by other tourism leaders including Ian White from StayBlackpool.com and Peter Robinson from Enjoy Fowey who have the same concerns. Debbie Walker from the Holiday & Residential Parks Association also shares similar concerns. Recent UK Hospitality polls show 73 per cent reduction in the chances of people going on holiday due to the proposed levy.
Tourism in Britain is being taxed out of existence, according to a letting boss from South Devon, with fears of a collapse under the Governments proposed holiday levy .
Kate Allen, who runs Finest Stays, sees it as just another stealth tax on the hospitality industry already taxed to high heaven. Vague plans for how the tax will be levied have also raised concerns, with Ms Allen saying it could add as much as £140 to a two week stay for a family of five and potentially devastating for the tourism sector in Devon and Cornwall.
Other tourism bosses including Ian White from StayBlackpool.com and Peter Robinson from Enjoy Fowey have echoed similar concerns. Meanwhile, Debbie Walker from the Holiday & Residential Parks Association suggests that a per person per night levy could easily add up to £140 to a typical family two week holiday.
