The rally is in response to recent efforts by southern states, including Alabama, to redraw political districts to favor Republicans.

) - Over 100 buses of activists from across the country are expected to come to Alabama for Saturday’s “All Roads Lead to the South” rally.

The day will kick off at 9 a.m. at Selma’s Tabernacle Baptist Church with a service of prayer and remembrance. A rally outside the State Capitol building is set to begin at 12:30 p.m. “Currently right now we have over 109 buses that are scheduled to come,” said LaTosha Brown, co-founder of Black Voters Matter.

“The majority of people are coming from surrounding states, but we have buses coming from Oregon... buses coming from Ohio, and this was all done in a matter of six days. ” The rally is in response to recent efforts by southern states, including Alabama, to redraw political districts to favor Republicans. U.S. Senator Cory Booker is one of several prominent figures slated to attend, including Alabama U.S. Representatives Terri Sewell and Shomari Figures.

“Now we are seeing unprecedented assaults in our generation on those rights that were paid for in the blood of our ancestors,” Booker said during a webinar with organizers. “We take this seriously, and we know it’s not just about Black folks because democracy is not secure for anyone if it’s not secure for everyone. ”“It’s very organized and we want to make sure that people will be able to enter through the marked entry way points.

There are going to be checkpoints that actually involve safety checks and things like that, for magnetometers, so we want to do everything that we can to ensure good coverage, visibility, and resources,” he said.
