The Montgomery Whitewater Foundation held a press conference Wednesday afternoon to announce a significant grant.
) - The Montgomery Whitewater Foundation held a press conference Wednesday afternoon, announcing a $50,000 grant from the Mid-South RC&D Council, which will support the next phase of its Swift Water Rescue training program.
This funding will allow the program to provide in-house training for first responders, military personnel, and rescue professionals in a controlled, engineered environment. The event included remarks from project partners and a live on‑water demonstration highlighting the program’s real‑world training capabilities.
“Because of the changing climate and everything in our world right now, swift water and flood rescue is becoming more common and dangerous,” explained Jen Miller, the CEO of For Assistant Chief Ricky Roberts, the training is personal. He’s seen what happens first-hand if you’re unprepared.
“My first call that I ever went on with swift water rescue was in Montgomery,” he remembered. “There was a life lost that day because there was not a trained team in this area. I was on that scene, and I made a vow to myself right then that if I could possibly do anything to prepare myself or my co-workers that I would.
