A traffic stop in Jasper County, Indiana, ended fatally when a deputy shot and killed a suspect who resisted arrest. The Indiana State Police are investigating the incident.
A deputy with the Jasper County Sheriff's Department fatally shot a suspect during a traffic stop on Sunday, January 26th. The incident occurred roughly at 4:15 p.m. on S.R. 14 east of C.R. 475 E., near the Pulaski County line. According to the Indiana State Police (ISP), the deputy initiated a traffic stop and attempted to arrest the suspect, who then resisted. During the ensuing altercation, the officer discharged their weapon, fatally wounding the suspect.
The ISP confirmed that the suspect was in possession of a firearm during the traffic stop. Jasper County Sheriff Patrick Williamson requested the ISP to conduct a thorough investigation into the officer-involved shooting, emphasizing transparency. The involved officer has been placed on paid administrative leave, a standard protocol followed by the department in such circumstances. Sheriff Williamson expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and stated that the officer's name will be released once approved by the State Police Detectives.The investigation is ongoing, and upon its completion, the findings will be submitted to the Jasper County Prosecutor's Office for formal review. The deceased has been identified as Huttle, who was previously arrested in November 2022 in Boise, Idaho, for misdemeanor offenses related to the January 6th riots.
