Russia's United Aircraft Corporation delivered a new batch of Su-35S multirole fighters to the Aerospace Forces, reinforcing ongoing frontline air operations.

The United Aircraft Corporation has delivered a new batch of Su-35S multirole fighters to the Russian Aerospace Forces . The handover, confirmed through state media, is intended to achieve air superiority and support extended long-range strike missions for frontline tactical aviation.

The aircraft has recently played an important role in Russia’s Ukraine conflict, as it has secured Russian-controlled airspace against drone and cruise missile threats.Though the size of the batch was not disclosed, the delivery forms part of ongoing state defense orders and signals continued production of the aircraft. UAC, a unit of the Rostec state conglomerate, described the aircraft as central to preserving the combat effectiveness of Russia’s fighter fleet.Su-35S: Russia’s heavy multirole fighter jetThe Su-35S is a heavy multirole fighter equipped for multiple tasks in a single mission. It combines air-to-air dominance with the ability to strike ground targets at long range. In a report released on April 17 by state media outlet TASS, Rostec stated that the Su-35S is “designed to achieve air superiority and engage ground infrastructure targets at significant distances from the base airfield.”A serving Russian pilot provided a detailed account of the aircraft’s operational roles. According to the pilot, the Su-35S is used for “long-range interception of aerial targets, cover for strike groups and ground facilities, destruction of unmanned aerial vehicles, precision engagement of ground and surface targets, and reconnaissance of enemy positions deep beyond the line of contact.”United Aircraft Corporation chief executive Vadim Badekha stressed the priority of meeting government contracts. “Unconditional fulfillment of state defense procurement orders remains the company’s top priority, particularly for operational-tactical aircraft,” UAC CEO Vadim Badekha said in the TASS report, adding that production rates are sustained through continuous optimization of manufacturing processes.A key asset in Russia’s tactical aviationThe Su-35S is powered by two 117S afterburning turbofan engines, each producing 14,500 kg of thrust in afterburner. It reaches a top speed of Mach 2.25, has a practical range of 3,600 kilometers at cruising altitude without refueling, and operates at service ceilings up to 18,000 meters .The fighter can carry an 8,000-kilogram combat load on 12 external points and features advanced sensors, supermaneuverability, and an onboard self-defense suite. The latest delivery reinforces the position of the Su-35S as a key asset in Russia’s tactical aviation. The aircraft supports defensive and offensive counter-air operations, escorts strike packages, and conducts precision strikes in contested environments.According to a Defence Blog report, Russia has relied heavily on the Su-35S in recent years. It has deployed the fighter primarily for air superiority missions, combat air patrols, and escort missions. Rostec describes the jet as a record-holder in enemy aircraft interceptions. To date, Russia’s VKS has failed to achieve air superiority or dominance over most of Ukraine. According to reports, Ukraine has shot down at least eight Su-35S aircraft, with one reportedly downed by a Ukrainian F-16 using an AIM-120 AMRAAM.
