A mother says a Cleveland school ignored her child’s seizure plan when he showed signs of a medical emergency Wednesday.
CLEVELAND, Ohio - A mother says a Cleveland school ignored her child’s seizure plan when he showed signs of a medical emergency Wednesday. Alexandra Parsons says she received a call from Clark Elementary Wednesday.
Her son Lomarion was in the nurse’s office. Parsons said the nurse told her Lomarion was having trouble breathing and gave him his inhaler. But the nurse also told Parsons that her son was shaking. “She said it’s a seizure like activity. Okay, well he has a seizure plan, he has an action plan for this. It’s not like this is something new, he has a history,” Parsons said. Parsons says the school nurse treated her son for asthma, but her son has a history of seizures and a plan with the school. The plan says if Lomarion shows signs of a seizure to call 911. Parsons says the seizure plan has been in place for three years.Lomarion Walker is in the second grade at Clark Elementary. The Cleveland Metropolitan School District said in a statement to 19 News that, “It is being taken seriously and investigated.” When Parsons picked her son up from school, she said he seemed out of it. Then something frightening happened. “I look back 10 minutes later as I’m driving home, my son’s in a full-blown seizure in my back seat. So, I did rush him to the closest hospital,” Parsons said. Parsons showed 19 News the hospital records which confirm the child had a seizure and a broken kneecap, that doctors believe could have been caused by stiffening during the seizure. “My son was very frantic, he was terrified.
