An Eastlake North High School student athlete suffered a brain injury during the WRC Conference track meet Thursday evening.
MAYFIELD VILLAGE, Ohio - An Eastlake North High School student athlete suffered a brain injury during the WRC Conference track meet Thursday evening. According to a Willoughby-Eastlake City Schools official, the injury happened during a pole vault event.
After the accident, officials said the student was immediately transferred to Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital and underwent emergency surgery. The student, whose name has not been released, has since been transferred to the neurosurgical intensive care unit at Akron Children’s Hospital.
“Our entire district is deeply saddened by this accident, and our primary focus remains on his health and recovery,” said Superintendent Dr. Patrick Ward. “The care and concern for him and his family is on our hearts and minds during this incredibly difficult time. We are maintaining close, ongoing communication with the family to offer our support and receive updates on his progress.
