EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio - Trash overflows from vacant houses onto sidewalks. Roads are riddled with craters. Residents on Northfield Avenue say their neighborhood is desperate for repairs.
Illegal dumping has left garbage stacked on lots and driveways, crowding onto sidewalks.“At night, people dump, we don’t see them doing it, but it happens, they feel they can put it there because nobody cares,” said Tigheshawn Taylor, a resident.
Broken streetlights create safety hazards At night, conditions worsen. Only one streetlight operates near the intersection of Northfield Avenue and Euclid Avenue. “One grandson actually fell into one riding his bike home, because it was dark, and he can’t see,” Taylor said.
County records show some properties are privately owned,’ however, several are owned by the city or county. 19 News reached out via phone and email to the city of East Cleveland and is still waiting for a response about a plan for the area.
