Landslide Closes Revilla Road in Ketchikan, Strands Vehicles

A landslide Sunday night closed Revilla Road in Ketchikan, Alaska, stranding six vehicles with eight passengers. The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities is awaiting a geologist's assessment before clearing the debris. All stranded individuals are safe.

A landslide in Ketchikan on Oct. 6, occurred on the section of Revilla Road past the Ward Lake exit and before the paintball field. The landslide debris is blocking both lanes of traffic. Six vehicles containing eight passengers are on the other side of the slide area and have checked in with officials.

There are no reported injuries.ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A landslide in Ketchikan Sunday night forced the closure of a two-lane road on the outskirts of the Southeast community, according to the Ketchikan Gateway Borough. Slide debris blocked both lanes of Revilla Road starting at about 8 p.m. Sunday past the Ward Lake exit but before the paintball fields. The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities is waiting for a geologist from Juneau to arrive Monday morning to assess the landslide area before they start to work on removing the debris. Six vehicles with eight people were stranded on the other side of the landslide area. All were unharmed. Several individuals were able to walk across the debris field to the Ketchikan side. One family of four remains in their vehicle on the other side of the slide area, according to Alaska State Troopers. Troopers said that after all vehicles and passengers have made it safely to the Ketchikan side, the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities will close Revilla Road to through traffic at the North Tongass Highway junction.The Ketchikan Volunteer Rescue Squad and the North Tongass Fire and EMS Service Area is among the agencies on standby to assist the remaining individuals who are stuck in the landslide.Police identify man fatally shot by lone officer in Mountain View
