FromSeason 4 Episode 4Interview

The actress provides insights into her character's most pivotal moments, including a haircut scene that holds significance, the complex relationship with Randall, and more.

Editor's note: The below interview contains spoilers for From Season 4 Episode 4 . Viewers may have been left with many unanswered questions ahead of From 's return with Season 4, but the MGM+ horror series hasn't wasted any time in continuing the story.

The premiere ends with the twist that the seemingly innocent Sophia is actually the Man in the Yellow Suit in disguise, while Episode 2 confirms what happened to Jim after he was murdered by the Man in Yellow in front of his daughter, Julie . Episode 4,"Of Myths and Monsters," brings viewers one step closer to that fateful moment in Season 3's finale, especially as Julie begins to test the limits of exactly what her"storywalking" abilities are capable of.

Ahead of Episode 4's premiere, Collider had the opportunity to speak with Cheramy about her character's most pivotal moments this week, including the haircut scene that holds even more significance when taking last season's finale into account, her take on Julie and Randall's complicated relationship, why Tabitha's shovel talk is more bittersweet than not, what she's enjoyed about appearing in co-star Ricky He's hilarious meme videos, and more.

COLLIDER: In the Season 3 finale, it became clear that the show was, for people who were at least paying close attention, doing something very intriguing, as far as Julie's storywalker time travel abilities are concerned. What was your initial reaction when you learned that this was the direction that her storyline was going in? HANNAH CHERAMY: I was so pumped.

Genuinely, I was really excited to have this storyline that kind of felt like I was driving it forward, and I was really happy to have that sort of impact on the show. Just seeing that in Season 3, knowing that Julie had this ability... I never thought of Julie as the person to have something that special about her. I knew she was special, but I didn’t know that she had this special ability.

Also, the confirmation in Season 4 that only Julie can do it — Randall couldn't — I was like, “Yes! Yes, it's me. I am the one. ” Hannah Cheramy Shares Her Thoughts on Julie and Randall's Dynamic in 'From' "They're both very protective of one another in a sense because of what they have both gone through...

" Since you brought up Randall, their dynamic has really been interesting to watch. What do you think draws Julie to Randall, both as a confidante and a friend? Is there anything more developing between them? CHERAMY: From my side, and how I see the relationship, they are so trauma-bonded to one another because of what they both went through in the chambers.

They also went through that with Marielle, but Marielle has Kristi, in a sense, where if she needed to turn to someone, she really has her person in town with her. Randall's very alone, Julie feels very alone, and I think that draws them together as an unlikely duo. I think it really pulls them together in that way.

They're both very protective of one another in a sense because of what they have both gone through, and they're the only other person who knows what happened to them. Julie is still hearing screaming every day in her head. That's just a constant thing for her, and obviously, Randall has his own thing going on in his head. I know that a lot of people also see it in a romantic sense.

I'm not going to tell anybody what to think or what to feel or how they should perceive things. Personally, I see it as a big brother-little sister dynamic, but if you want that minor to be with that grown-ass man, sure. Granted, there is some humor in the scene this week when Tabitha literally pulls Randall aside for what feels like a shovel talk.

It's a funny moment that happens away from Julie, but there's a sad undertone too, because it feels like this is something that Jim would have done if he had still been around. CHERAMY: That was 100% a tried-and-true Jim moment. That is Jim to a tee. He was doing that to everybody.

“You stay away from my daughter! She's a child. ” That was his little thing. He was such a protective dad in that way, and he's not there anymore.

Tabitha really has to step up in that moment because Tabitha was always a protector in her own way, different from Jim, and so I think that she really has to understand, like, “Okay, she doesn't have her father there anymore to guide her. ” Maybe from Tabitha’s perspective, she's like, “Is Julie looking to Randall as an older male father figure? ” I don't personally see it like that.

I don't think that Julie sees him as a father figure, but that could be what Tabitha's thinking. It was a great “touch her and die” scene. Mama bear. Related 'From's Most Horrifying Twist So Far Is a Whole New Low for the Nightmarish Town Harold Perrineau discusses Boyd's fractured state of mind and the mood on set for 'From's most"despicable" moment yet.

Posts By Carly Lane Since we didn't have a chance to talk about Episode 2, which I previously spoke with Harold about, it's such an impactful moment for the family, but also the town as a whole. In terms of what happened to Jim, there's the fake-out leading up to it, and then the kids discover him in the barn. How did you want to approach filming that scene, and how did you gear up to shoot it?

CHERAMY: Well, first of all, I do have to do a crazy major shout-out to John Griffin, our writer, because that was the most evil genius thing I've ever seen on TV. The fact that the monsters would know that Tabitha would send the kids to the barn to escape from what was potentially happening with the bag — genius. Just perfect. No notes.

On set that day, it was really rough. It's really hard to do scenes like that, screaming especially. We're very protective of Simon Webster, who plays Ethan. He wasn't on set while I was doing screaming stuff.

I don't know if he saw the body either, because he's so close to Eion , too, and you just don't need to see that. You do not need to see that as a child. So, it was a very protective day on set. It was very close quarters.

I only saw the body for the first time when I did the scream. It was really rough. I had to take a lot of time for myself to prepare for a scene that intense. Hannah Cheramy Was Surprised by Julie's New Bob in 'From's Latest Episode "...

I was still very shocked when it did happen, especially so soon.

" I shot up a bit more in my seat at the scene where Julie cuts her hair in Episode 4. Anyone paying attention to the time travel of it all probably remembers that the Julie who tried to save Jim in the Season 3 finale also had shorter hair. What was your reaction to realizing that From is getting closer to that full-circle moment?

CHERAMY: I knew that it was coming from the first couple of episodes, because they were fitting me for a wig, but I was still very shocked when it did happen, especially so soon. I knew it was coming, but I thought it would maybe be later in the season. I was like, “Oh, we’re doing it now? We’re bobbing it for a long time now.

” Yeah, it's gonna be really good. I've already been seeing people posting right now, just from the snippet of the teaser trailer for Episode 4, and they were like, “Julie has a bob! She has a bob. It's coming.

It's happening, it's happening! ” The bookmark scene happens afterward, which feels like Julie trying to test the limits of what she can do, where she can go. She does travel to a point in the past and encounters the Man in Yellow, but then something happens, and the bookmark doesn't work. Did you get confirmation on which moment in the past that's meant to be?

CHERAMY: Just from the costumes of the people that were on the ground, how the town looked — obviously, it was bloody — it was the massacre day, when Victor was a small child. It was supposed to be the ‘70s. The set design was so good. They even took the swing set, the slide, and repainted it so it was a fresher coat of paint instead of what's now cracked, old paint.

The American flag, instead of the shred in it, it's a full American flag. I was like, “All these little details! Yes, we're in the past. ” We have to talk about Ricky 's meme game, which is just unmatched at this point.

What have you enjoyed about being a part of these videos and doing something a little more lighthearted, especially given how heavy the show can get? CHERAMY: That was really cool. Ricky's so fucking silly. This promo thing that he's doing is just literally the most Ricky thing that could possibly be.

When he asked me to be part of it, it was originally the one where we had the drone shot of Vancouver, and the drone didn't work that day, so we had to reschedule it. But then they were like, “Do you want to be in this other sketch, as well? ” And I was like, “Yes, I want to be in another one.

” Originally, it was going to be the Hot Ones one that he did, and he's like, “You can be Sean Evans in a bald cap,” and I was like, “Just not that one. ” So they changed it. I did the other one instead, which is also really funny, and I really liked doing it. It’s just stupid, and I just love doing silly stuff like that.
