Officers recover stolen firearm after bystander helps apprehend fleeing suspect.

TRENTON , Ohio - Trenton police arrested three suspects this week in connection with a recent string of car break-ins, with a Good Samaritan helping officers apprehend one suspect who fled on foot.

Police Chief Patrick Carr said officers located three individuals who matched suspect descriptions in the break-ins. Items stolen included wallets, laptops and a gun, according to Carr. One suspect fought officers and was tased, Carr said. That suspect is charged with resisting arrest and drug possession.

Another suspect was taken into custody and admitted to stealing a firearm from a vehicle on April 15 in Trenton. That suspect is charged with felony theft of a firearm. The third suspect fled and hid the firearm, but officers apprehended him with help from a Good Samaritan. That suspect is charged with receiving stolen property, having weapons under disability and tampering with evidence, police said.

“When the suspect ran down the street, a Good Samaritan assisted us and got the third suspect on the ground, and we did recover the stolen firearm that was taken out of one of the vehicles,” Carr said. Andrew Haggard said he was driving home from the store when he saw the police activity and noticed someone running from officers.

“About that time I got him on the ground, had his hands behind his back, and one of the other officers come running up and got with him and pretty much just took over, and I had to get his cuffs and stuff out of his car,” Haggard said. “There’s kids all over that neighborhood, and I’m like, I heard her say gun. That was my main thing.

I’m like you can’t have no dude running around with a gun with all of these kids out here playing,” Haggard said. Carr said the department used drones and home surveillance videos to identify suspects in the break-ins. The two juveniles were taken to the Butler County Juvenile Detention Center. The adult was taken to the Middletown Jail.
