Lighthouse Press is launching a Kickstarter campaign to bring Stephen R. Bissette's acclaimed 90s comic, a prehistoric narrative of a Tyrannosaurus rex, back to life with a deluxe edition. The campaign includes oversized original art editions, new essays, and previously unreleased material, offering a comprehensive and visually stunning experience for fans and newcomers alike. This project will be the first of many to highlight influential comics from the 1990s.

The early 1990s witnessed a vibrant period in the world of comics, particularly within the self-publishing scene. Numerous talented creators seized the opportunity to bring their unique stories and artistic visions to life independently. Among these pioneering individuals was Stephen R. Bissette , whose work, particularly his comic series, stands as a testament to this era's creative energy.

The series offered a prehistoric narrative of a Tyrannosaurus rex, delving into its struggles for survival even before its emergence from the egg. Although it received a nomination for the Best New Series Eisner Award in 1995, the original run was limited to just four issues. Now, Lighthouse Press is revitalizing this forgotten masterpiece. \Lighthouse Press is spearheading a Kickstarter campaign to fund a Deluxe Edition of Bissette's comic, bringing together the complete four issues in a visually stunning format. The edition will feature oversized original art editions derived directly from Bissette's hand-drawn pages, providing readers with an unparalleled glimpse into the artist's creative process. Additionally, the project will incorporate different edition designs curated by Jim Rugg. A significant component of this deluxe edition will be a new, extensive 7,000-word introductory essay that aims to enrich the reading experience and offer the best version of this classic comic. The Kickstarter campaign offers two distinct versions of the comic: the Original Art version, a large-format hardcover containing over 100 pages, and The Complete Edition, a hardcover presented in a slipcase with over 200 pages. These editions are designed to be the definitive versions of the series, including all the original backmatter from the four issues, alongside insightful letters and essays exploring themes of paleontology, pop culture, and more. The Complete Edition will exclusively present previously unpublished material from issues #5 and #6, a feature long desired by the series' dedicated fanbase. \Stephen R. Bissette expressed his excitement about this revival, stating that Lighthouse Press has rescued his 'lost Odysseus' from a long 'ocean of tears' and that his orphaned creation is at long last free. Jim Rugg also shared his enthusiasm, describing the comic as one of the most beautiful he has ever seen and highlighting its universal appeal to readers of all ages. This project marks the first of several titles that Lighthouse Press plans to resurrect in the coming years, with a specific focus on comics from the 1990s and early 2000s. These releases will showcase deluxe artist editions of lesser-known and cult favorite titles, adding to the growing collection of classic comics. The Kickstarter campaign provides a range of backer rewards, including fluorescent backlight posters, a Tyrant Collector’s Metal Apex Bookmark, and a 1000-piece premium puzzle, allowing fans to engage with the project and support the effort. This initiative is a welcome opportunity for fans of comics, art, and the history of independent publishing to celebrate a unique work, showcasing the creative spirit of the era and the enduring power of storytelling. Furthermore, it highlights the importance of archiving and revisiting significant works to preserve and disseminate the unique art forms of the past, making them available for future generations
