ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The current Anchorage Assembly only has a couple meetings before the municipal election, and some members are introducing their last pieces of legislation.were introduced a couple weeks ago, and they are up for a second public hearing on Tuesday.
The zoning change could see a vote by the end of the night. In addition, the Anchorage School District budget is on Tuesday’s Assembly agenda for public hearing. Ultimately the budget passed in a vote of 7 to 5, the narrowest possible margin.introduced by Assembly chair Chris Constant, requesting up to $30 million of state oil revenues for housing and public infrastructure. The item was introduced and made publicly available on Tuesday night. The assembly passed it unanimously. Given the recent increase in oil and gas prices, the resolution says estimates for state revenue could rise by as much as $1 billion. In the event of a large revenue increase, the assembly is requesting the state Legislature earmark “any portion of $30,000,000 in one-time capital funding to support public infrastructure, site preparation, and acquisition of properties suitable for housing development.” Included in the legislation are notes on several “high-impact opportunity sites” that are recommended for development, including parcels at 3rd and Ingra, the Archives site, the old Totem Theatre site, 100th at C Street, Gambell Carrs, and Powder Ridge. The resolution is not a guarantee of any legislative action, merely a request, and during the meeting Constant said the municipality should take advantage of increased state revenue, and in regard to the capital funds, “it’s not all that likely, but it could happen.”An Anchorage woman froze to death.
