We're almost to the weekend Gulf Coast , but as we move into the weekend, we'll need to be alert to the changing weather. Most of Friday will be spend under partly sunny to mostly cloudy skies. It will also be mild and breezy as highs climb into the mid and upper 70s for most while some north of I-10 hit 80.
A few hit or miss showers will be possible during the day, but as we go from Friday night into the very early morning hours on Saturday, the risk of severe weather will increase as a powerful storm system moves into the Deep South. On Saturday, most of our area has been placed in a level 4/5 moderate risk of severe weather. That means scattered to numerous severe storms are LIKELY. Damaging winds, hail, and tornadoes will all be possible and significant severe weather can't be ruled out. Two rounds of storms are possible. Isolated storms will be possible from late Friday night through early Saturday. The main timeframe for our area though will be from mid/late morning Saturday through Saturday night. From mid to late morning through the evening, isolated to scattered discrete storms will be possible, then from the late afternoon into Saturday night, a squall line is expected to move through. The discrete storms would have the highest chance to produce strong tornadoes. Outside of any weather or in between storms on Saturday, skies will be partly sunny to mostly cloudy, it will be windy, and highs will be in the mid to upper 70s. With the potential of breaks in the weather, it will be important to not let your guard down as we move through Saturday. We've already marked Saturday as a Code Red weather day. Make sure you stay up to date with the forecast, identify multiple ways to receive alerts by Saturday, and know where your safe place is before you need it. Past daybreak on Sunday, showers and storms will clear leading to a calmer end to the weekend. By Monday we're back to sunshine as highs hold steady in the 70s as lows return to the 40s. At the beach, the rip current risk will be moderate during the day on Friday, then will go to HIGH Friday night through the weekend.
