Marisel Rodríguez, from the Judicial Investigation Department in Costa Rica (OIJ), told CNN that Miller was found dead in his hotel room and preliminary reports suggest asphyxiation due to intoxication related to food poisoning. Food intoxication, also known as food poisoning, occurs when contaminated food or drinks containing toxins from bacteria, viruses or parasites are consumed. Symptoms typically include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. While most cases are mild, severe instances can lead to dehydration and excessive diarrhea and vomiting, requiring medical attention. Certain types of food poisoning, like Clostridium botulinum (botulism), can cause symptoms like difficulty swallowing and muscle weakness.The Gardners have described Miller as a beloved son and brother, stating they are still struggling to comprehend life without his infectious smile. They shared that Miller loved football, baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, his family, and his friends. He lived life to the fullest every day.Brett Gardner, his wife Jessica, and their older son Hunter are receiving an outpouring of support from former teammates and those familiar with the family. Carlos Mendoza, Mets manager and former teammate of Brett's, offered condolences during a press conference on Sunday, expressing his thoughts and prayers for the family. The New York Yankees also released a statement expressing their grief over Miller's passing, emphasizing the profound loss felt by the entire team. They described Miller as having a spark in his eyes, an outgoing and feisty personality, and a warm and loving nature. Brett Gardner spent his entire 14-year Major League Baseball career with the New York Yankees, making his debut in 2008. Known for his speed, defense, and leadership, Gardner became a pivotal player and fan favorite due to his unwavering work ethic and commitment to the game.
