Bose has unveiled its new Lifestyle speaker collection in a striking multi-story demonstration held at a townhouse on New York’s Upper West Side. The launch event, characterized by ascending audio and numerous stairs, signaled a shift for the company known for its noise-canceling technology, focusing instead on creating a buzz around its latest audio innovations.
The collection, representing over four years of research and development, aims to deliver high-immersion, low-friction audio experiences. The Lifestyle Ultra Speaker, priced between $299 and $349 depending on the finish (Black/White Smoke or limited-edition Driftwood Sand), is designed to function as a standalone unit, a stereo pair, part of a whole-home system, or as rear speakers in a surround-sound setup.
Its compact design and furnishings-friendly aesthetic allow it to seamlessly blend into any living space, from high-end residences to more modest homes. The speaker utilizes a combination of a physical Direct/Reflecting array and proprietary TrueSpatial digital signal processing to elevate the center image and broaden the sweet spot, promising an expansive soundstage. CleanBass technology, featuring a proprietary rear QuietPort treatment with resistive materials, enables deep bass response from the speaker’s small enclosure without unwanted turbulence.
Moving up the line, the Bose Lifestyle Ultra Soundbar ($1,099 in Black/White Smoke) expands on the Ultra Speaker’s design, featuring a 5.0.2 configuration with four full-range drivers, two upward-firing drivers, a center tweeter, and proprietary PhaseGuide radiators. These PhaseGuide radiators, inspired by ribbon-tweeter technology, use tiny radiating points to coherently direct sound, creating a wider soundstage without the need for additional drivers.
The soundbar also incorporates Speech Clarity, an AI-powered feature that distinguishes, isolates, and amplifies dialogue, enhancing clarity even in complex audio mixes. For those seeking a truly immersive experience, the Lifestyle Ultra Subwoofer ($899 in Black/White Smoke) adds powerful low-frequency extension with its 10.5-inch woofer. Combining the Ultra Soundbar, Ultra Speakers, and Subwoofer creates a 7.1.4 system, while a simpler 5.1.2 setup can be achieved with just the Soundbar and Subwoofer.
The system utilizes Custom Tune, an updated version of ADAPTiQ, for room calibration tailored to the user’s specific environment, leveraging the microphone on their smartphone. The Lifestyle Ultra collection supports AirPlay 2 and Google Cast for multi-room audio, allowing integration with both Bose and non-Bose products. The company has prioritized interoperability, supporting Spotify Connect (with TIDAL Connect planned for a future firmware update) and offering controls through both the Bose app and on-product touchpoints.
Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity is also included, along with a 3.5mm analog input for devices like turntables and next-gen Alexa+ support for voice control. A physical mute button ensures privacy. Importantly, the Lifestyle Ultra collection is not compatible with previous Bose home-theater products. The Bose Lifestyle Collection is available for preorder now and will begin shipping on May 15th
