DOTHAN , Ala. - The city of Dothan is now a Purple Heart City, a designation given by the Alabama Military Order of the Purple Heart. At a Tuesday meeting, city commissioners honored Purple Heart recipients with a proclamation.
The Purple Heart is an honor for service members injured or killed in action.“We put our money where our mouth is when it comes to Dothan, and in this case, it’s worth the investment to honor these heroes, and that’s what they are, and I think every city should want to honor their heroes,” Stock said. “And I’m proud that it’s been able to happen during our commission.” The state department commander said the city’s support for Purple Heart recipients, the military and military families is evident. “Dothan certainly came out. They represented themselves well. We were absolutely pleased, not only with the reception that we got here in Dothan, but, you know, what it means to this city,” said Andrew DelGaudio, Alabama Department Commander for the Military Order of the Purple Heart. “In particular, being so close to Fort Rucker, we had a tremendous amount of active duty guard and reserve soldiers from the base, as well as the base’s leadership came up to be with us today here.
