PAINESVILLE, Ohio - One of the four people accused of fatally shooting a 20-year-old man in downtown Painesville , had a change of plea hearing Monday morning; however, Aviantae Atterberry declined to change his plea.
According to Painesville police, Wyllyam James Sheffey, Jr., from Ashtabula, was found dead in the driver’s seat of a vehicle in theAtterberry is charged with aggravated murder, kidnapping, and conspiracy charges. His trial is now scheduled to begin June 1. Solomon J. Gaston has pleaded not guilty to all charges, but there is no next court date listed for him. In April 2026, Avion Gaines was found guilty of complicity to aggravated murder.
His sentencing date has not been set.
