SANDUSKY, Ohio - The U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested a suspect in Sandusky Thursday wanted for a Columbus neighborhood shooting.
Dwayne Rheubottom, 38, was wanted both for felonious assault in Franklin County and for a shooting on Oakland Park Avenue in the Columbus area. The shooting occurred in March and resulted in a man suffering multiple gunshot wounds and a woman suffering a gunshot wound to the leg. The Columbus Police Department investigated the shooting and issued a warrant for Rheubottom’s arrest.
The U.S. Marshals worked with the Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team to discover that Rheubottom fled from Columbus and resided in Sandusky on West Adam Street. The Lorain Divison of NOVFTF arrested Rheubottom at his Sandusky home Thursday and transported him to the Erie County Jail before he is sent back to Franklin County to face felonious assault charges.
“This is the second day in a row the Lorain Division of our NOVFTF arrested a violent fugitive from outside of northern Ohio trying to hide out in our communities,” said U.S. Marshal Pete Elliot. “Great investigative work by the Columbus Police Department led to the identification of this suspect and an outstanding working relationship between the SOFAST and the NOVFTF produced a safe arrest today.
