An inmate at the Thurston County Jail allegedly attempted to smuggle fentanyl through the jail in his rectum and tried to swallow the drugs after he was caught on Wednesday. The inmate was already in custody at the jail for a domestic violence charge, and was being escorted through the facility when a corrections sergeant witnessed the inmate make “furtive movements,” Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders Sanders noted the inmate was restrained with his hands down the back of his pants as he was being escorted through the jail.

The sergeant quickly grabbed hold of the inmate, and a struggle ensued. During the struggle, the inmate attempted to eat the narcotics but was stopped by jail staff, according to Sanders. The inmate was booked on new charges of possessing a controlled substance in a correctional facility. Thurston County Sheriff’s Office’s K9 Talia conducted a sweep of the inmates’ previous housing area. The department did not mention if K9 Talia found any additional narcotics at the inmates’ housing area. “Great job by corrections staff to remain attentive and prevent the fentanyl from being distributed through the facility, which would have undoubtedly resulted in overdoses,” Sanders stated. An inmate at the Thurston County Jail allegedly attempted to smuggle fentanyl through the jail in his rectum and tried to swallow the drugs after he was caught. ‘We’re not safe anywhere’: Seattle influencer goes viral after she was attacked on popular waterfront trail A Seattle social media influencer says she was grabbed by a stranger in broad daylight while on her daily run along a popular waterfront trail.A woman in Centralia was arrested for financially exploiting a 96-year-old vulnerable woman by accessing her accounts, stealing $78,000, and taking her house.Escaped Western State Hospital inmate captured in SeaTac after nearly 2 weeks A missing inmate from Western State Hospital who broke out nearly two weeks ago has been found and taken into custody.Redmond HVAC contractor earns triple recognition in 60 days, reflecting a shift in how homeowners vet contractors Three independent organizations that evaluate home service contractors each reached the same conclusion: Home Comfort Alliance is among the most reliable in its market.WSECU Community Champion: Chrystal Ortega’s mission to feed Spokane Chrystal Ortega's tireless dedication recently earned her the WSECU Community Champions Award and a $1,000 grant to further the mission. When Shawn Tibbitts opened Tibbitts FernHill, he was just trying to survive.
