A veteran reporter has filed a lawsuit against the Daily Mail, alleging gender discrimination and harassment by the outlet's editor, Daniel Jones. The reporter claims that Jones, known for disrespecting women, drove female subordinates to smear poop on the walls of the newsroom's restroom in protest.
editor known to “disrespect women” was so hated among his female subordinates that he drove them to smear “poop onto the walls” of the newsroom’s restroom in protest, according to a shocking new lawsuit.
The veteran reporter sued the outlet for allegedly subjecting her to “relentless, severe, and pervasive gender discrimination” by editor Daniel Jones – a well-known problem in the office that higher-ups failed to do anything about, she alleged in the suit. Pomiscuous Daily Mail editor Daniel Jones, known to “disrespect women,” was so hated among his female subordinates that they’d smear “poop onto the walls” of the newsroom’s restroom in protest.
Garvey said she was warned about Jones – head of the tabloid’s Money & Commerce Section and Garvey’s direct supervisor – when she joined the Mail as a real estate reporter in February 2025, according to the suit. Cult-like movement backs billionaires as it spreads its message, with 80 journalists at top news orgsThe allegedly creepy journo was also known to “cheat on his wife in front of female employees and his subordinates” at company holiday parties, with a picture of Jones groping a woman circulating around the newsroom, the lawsuit states.
Women at the publication were so fed up with Jones’ behavior – and the tabloid’s inability to do anything about it – that they took to defecating on top of toilets and smearing feces on walls of the restroom in protest, the court doc alleges. About a month into her position at the new job, Garvey alleged that Jones would frequently yell at her and order her to “stop talking.
”The suit was filed by current Daily Mail reporter Marianne Garvey in the New York Supreme Court, detailing the gross behavior conducted at the New York Daily Mail office. In one instance, “Jones jumped out of his chair, slammed his desk, and yelled at Plaintiff while only inches away from her face,” according to the suit.
The real estate reporter also said Jones would often complain about her choice of photos of realtors in her articles, persuading her to use photos of female realtors over male realtors and then to highlight “attractive” female realtors over male realtors. Facebook / Marianne Garvey “Jones made sexualized and appearance-focused requests via Slack, including sending a nude photo of a woman and asking that Plaintiff’s picture choices be “like this,” and repeatedly requesting “hotter” or “more attractive” images of women,” according to the suit.
But the second time led to further alleged harassment by managing editor Richard Ellis, she claimed in the court docs. Garvey alleges the editor “continued to berate her and pretextually scrutinize her work” in one meeting and moved her around to three unfamiliar reporting beats in retaliation for her complaints.
Garvey – who’s worked at The Post, the Daily News, NBC, and CNN – is seeking damages from the Mail, and alleges that she’s the eleventh employee at the tabloid to be subjected to harassment and retaliation by Jones and Ellis.
“he Daily Mail has conveyed a blatant yet grim message to its female employees: this is not a safe place for you and you are not welcome here,” Garvey stated in her suit. The Mail did not respond to a request for comment by the time of publication. Jones and Ellis could not be reached for comment.
