Yona Manga Returns with Side Stories and Anime Sequel Confirmed
YonaMangaAnime

Kusanagi Mizuho’s Yona manga continues with new side stories, and a long-awaited anime sequel has been confirmed after a decade-long hiatus. The side stories explore the characters’ lives after the main storyline’s conclusion, while fans eagerly await updates on the anime’s production.

The critically acclaimed manga series created by Kusanagi Mizuho , known for its intricate plot and compelling characters, officially concluded its main storyline in December 2025.

However, the world of Yona and her companions wasn't left to fade away. In February, fans were delighted with the return of the narrative through new side stories published in Hakusensha’s Hana to Yume magazine. This continuation arrives sixteen years after the manga’s initial debut, offering a glimpse into the lives of the beloved characters following the bittersweet resolution of their epic journey.

The ongoing side story is slated to be compiled into the final Volume 48 of the manga, though a specific release date remains unconfirmed as new chapters continue to be released. Beyond the continuation of the story in manga form, exciting news has emerged regarding a potential anime revival. Ten years after the conclusion of the first season, a sequel has been confirmed, sending waves of anticipation through the fanbase.

Unfortunately, concrete details regarding the anime’s production, release date, or even a teaser have yet to be revealed. While fans are hopeful for updates throughout the year, there have been no official announcements from the franchise. In the meantime, the side story continues to unfold, with the second chapter focusing on the aftermath of the intense battle that took place at Hiryuu Castle.

Kusanagi Mizuho herself has been actively promoting the manga’s return, sharing a stunning new visual featuring Hak, the series’ male lead. The artwork depicts Hak in a fresh, modern outfit, cheerfully carrying a basket of buns with Ao perched comfortably on his shoulder, both appearing eager for a substantial meal. This image perfectly captures a lighter, more relaxed side of the usually stoic Hak, offering a heartwarming contrast to the series’ often dramatic events.

Mizuho also shared details about the latest issue of Hana to Yume, highlighting the inclusion of ‘Yona Gaiden 2’ with a lead color spread and a special Hakuyona acrylic stand as a bonus for purchasers. The issue’s cover theme is an amusement park, and Mizuho playfully admitted to lacking reference photos of Hak enjoying such a setting, expressing her enjoyment in illustrating the side story and requesting continued support from readers.

Hak’s character is central to the narrative, serving as Yona’s steadfast protector and childhood friend for three years. His unwavering loyalty was dramatically demonstrated on the night of the king’s assassination, when he single-handedly defended Yona against the rebel forces, ensuring her escape from the palace. Since that fateful night, he has remained by her side, a constant source of strength and support.

While Hak harbored romantic feelings for Yona for a long time, the princess gradually reciprocated those feelings throughout their shared adventures. The final arc of the main story was emotionally resonant, culminating in Zeno’s difficult decision to break the centuries-old cycle of suffering endured by the Dragon Warriors. Yona bravely risked her life to save her friends, with Hak and Soo-won providing crucial assistance.

The disappearance of the Dragon Gods led to the loss of the blessings granted to the Dragon Warriors, stripping them of their powers and transforming them into ordinary humans. Though their powers brought immense hardship, the removal of the ancient promise to serve their sovereign allowed them to forge their own destinies. The Dragon Warriors parted ways with Yona, embarking on individual journeys while promising to reunite in the future.

Yona, alongside Hak and Yoon, returned to Hiryuu Castle, assuming her rightful place as the kingdom’s ruler, marking a new chapter for both herself and the nation
