Actor faces three counts of simple battery after alleged French Quarter fight
NEW ORLEANS - Actor Shia LaBeouf addressed his arrest, homophobia, rehab and Mardi Gras in a wide-ranging interview published online. LaBeouf currently faces three misdemeanor simple battery counts connected to his high-profile arrest in New Orleans on Feb.
17. “Some people got hurt. I got to deal with that. I’mma deal with that. I’mma deal with that in full. I’ll eat it all. It’s on me. It’s not on them,” he said. However, Callaghan asked about what triggers LaBeouf’s anger. He said:When Callaghan asked for an explanation, LaBeouf said: “When I’m like standing by myself and three gay dudes are next to me touching my leg, I get scared. I’m sorry. If that’s homophobic, then I’m that,” he said.Fox 8’s Legal Analyst Joe Raspanti said the interview may work against LaBeouf during his court proceedings. “It can be played and if he said something against his interest, they’re going to use it,” Raspanti said. An Orleans Parish judge ordered LaBeouf to participate in drug and alcohol rehabilitation. He addressed rehab in the interview.Orleans Parish judges also set LaBeouf’s combined bail at $105,000. LaBeouf’s attorney, Sarah Chervinsky, released a statement criticizing the bond: “No regular person would be required to post over $100,000 in bonds and be jailed two separate times for one misdemeanor incident. Just as he does not deserve preferential treatment, Mr. LaBeouf also does not deserve to be treated more harshly by the police and courts just because he is a public figure.”“One hundred thousand dollars is an awful lot of money for a misdemeanor or a group of misdemeanors,” he said. LaBeouf did not address the bond in the interview. He, Chervinsky and Callaghan did not respond to requests for comment.Mobile County District Court judge resigns after less than a year on benchALEA: SUV, tractor-trailer in head on crash: 2 dead, 2 injured on Alabama 158 SaturdayIran attacks threaten US economy with more uncertainty around inflation, growthIranian drones hit the US Embassy in Saudi Arabia, while hundreds are reported dead in IranRubio urges US citizens to leave Middle East amid US-Israeli conflict with Iran
