SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio - Residents on Shelburne Street say their neighborhood road has turned into a bustling cut-through where speeding is now commonplace. She and other neighbors say the problem has accelerated in recent years, and area construction is now sending more people than ever down the street.
Katie Panzica, Bajic’s neighbor, said someone she believes was intoxicated crashed in front of her home in the middle of the afternoon.
“Why are there three accidents, severe accidents where the cars are getting totaled, on this street? Something is not quite right here,” Bajic said. There are speed signs, but not all of them work, and Bajic said there is an effort for more traffic enforcement.
“Street narrowers, we’re already doing that here in Shaker on Avalon, so why not here, where we have drunk drivers and terrible accidents? ” Bajic said.
“Every time my kids come out to play, I am anxious, especially if I know they’re playing with neighbors, they have to cross the street, and it would just give us peace of mind,” Bajic said.19 News reached out to the city to find out if there are any more permanent solutions to the issue on the table.
