Officers assigned to the Metro Area Crime Suppression Unit were patrolling the Calmar Drive-Gas Light Curve area when they saw Perry walking north toward a corner store. After he left the store, officers noticed a gun in his waistband as he walked south on the same sidewalk.
Officers approached Perry and asked for his name and date of birth to confirm whether he could legally possess a gun. Officers took the gun for safety. A records check showed the gun had been reported stolen from the department in late August 2025. Court documents also stated Perry had three or more felony convictions from separate cases, which barred him from possessing a gun.
