Poteet ISD has implemented a comprehensive training program to educate its entire student body on the dangers of grooming and child exploitation, empowering them with the knowledge and skills to protect themselves.
Poteet Independent School District (ISD) has achieved a significant milestone by providing comprehensive training to its entire student body on the dangers of grooming and child exploitation . The initiative stemmed from Michele Lozano, Poteet ISD's director of counseling and mental health, who attended a presentation by Ransomed Life , an organization dedicated to combating child trafficking.
Lozano was deeply impacted by Brooke Bobo, Ransomed Life's prevention education manager, who shared crucial insights into the tactics traffickers use to lure victims and the strategies for staying safe. The presentation emphasized the importance of identifying trusted adults, recognizing unsafe situations, and understanding the body's signals of distress. Students learned the vital role of open communication with trusted adults and the right to say no in any situation that feels uncomfortable or threatening. The program also highlighted the existence of safe places within the community where individuals can seek help. Poteet ISD seniors Jasmine Rodriguez, Adriana Trevino, and Aaliyah Curvey expressed their newfound awareness of these resources, emphasizing the significance of knowing where to turn for support in times of need. Ransomed Life aims to raise awareness about the risks of grooming and child exploitation throughout San Antonio and its surrounding areas, empowering individuals with the knowledge and tools to protect themselves and others
