NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The Canton post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that resulted in the deaths of two people Saturday morning.
They arrived at the scene at 7:16 a.m. and discovered both drivers were unresponsive and a juvenile passenger in one car. Troopers said the crash occurred between 21-year-old Cole Scholey of Beach City, who was driving a 2019 Ford Ranger, and 56-year-old Kelly Kemp of Massillon, who was driving a Honda Odyssey. Scholey was traveling north and moved left of center, striking Kemp head-on, according to the highway patrol.
Perry Township Fire Department transported Scholey to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital, where he died of his injuries. The juvenile passenger was traveling with Kemp. Troopers said neither driver was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The southbound lanes of Route 62 were briefly closed for three and a half hours while the highway patrol investigated the crash.
