A vehicle struck by a train on Monday afternoon in south suburban Robbins caused extensive delays along Metra 's Rock Island District line. Metra , the regional commuter rail system, reported the incident on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, at 3:34 p.m. Train #419, scheduled to arrive in Joliet at 4:02 p.m., was stopped near Robbins as a result of the collision.
Footage captured by NBC Chicago's Sky 5 helicopter showed a heavy law enforcement presence near the train tracks and 139th Street. An SUV, which appeared to have been struck by a train, was removed from a wooded area by a tow truck. At 4:13 p.m., Metra issued an update on X stating that Train #419 remained stopped near Robbins due to the vehicle striking a train. An extensive delay was anticipated. Metra promised to provide further updates as more information became available.The incident also impacted the departure of Train #430, scheduled to leave Joliet at 4:30 p.m., which was subsequently delayed as well. Metra urged passengers to check for service updates and consider alternative transportation options
