Two people were arrested in Healy on charges related to drug trafficking after being found in possession of approximately 2.282 kilograms of methamphetamine

HEALY, Alaska - Two people were arrested in Healy on charges related to drug trafficking after being found in possession of approximately 2.3 kilograms of methamphetamine, according to charging documents.

the Fairbanks Areawide Narcotics Team opened an investigation into 49-year-old Elizabeth Spurgeon in March, as she was suspected of selling meth in the Fairbanks area.

Around 12:30 a.m. on April 3, according to charging documents, Spurgeon was observed going south on the Parks Highway in a truck, arriving at an address in Palmer around 7:30 a.m. She stayed there for a few hours before leaving and meeting someone in the parking lot of a restaurant, then returning to the address in Palmer. Afterwards, Spurgeon began heading back towards Fairbanks around 12:30 p.m., making several stops along the way.

Spurgeon’s passenger, 47-year-old Robert Gentleman, was seen getting out of the truck and checking the snowmachine in the bed of the truck. A traffic stop was conducted just north of Healy for window tint and failing to come to a complete stop at a stop sign.

Spurgeon was asked about her travels to Palmer and she lied about the time she started driving, according to the charging documents. She gave consent to search the truck. A black plastic bag was seen in the corner of the truck bed squished between the truck bed walls and the snowmachine track.

After receiving a warrant to search the bag, police say the 2.3 kilograms of meth was found inside. That much meth is worth approximately $46,000 in the Fairbanks area, according to the Troopers.

Spurgeon and Gentleman each face one count of third-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
