The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) is investigating a deadly crash in Ashtabula that caused a large fire at the Crow’s Nest Restaurant early Friday morning.

ASHTABULA , Ohio - The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash in Ashtabula that caused a large fire at the Crow’s Nest Restaurant early Friday morning.According to an OSHP release, at around 3:05 a.

m., troopers responded to a one-car crash on State Route 531 at State Route 11. Investigators learned that John Yerkey, 52, of Salem, was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado and traveling northbound on State Route 11. Troopers said he drove through the intersection at State Route 531 and traveled off the north side of the roadway.The truck then hit a concrete post, a fence, a house, and The Crow’s Nest Restaurant, according to the release.He was pronounced dead at the scene.The Ashtabula Fire Department and the Ashtabula City Police Department responded to the scene of the crash. Troopers said that it is currently unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash, and it remains under investigation. The Crow’s Nest shared more information on the crash on social media, along with some photos of the aftermath. The fire department was quick to respond but could only contain the fire. The back of our building was torched. Our walk in cooler and freezer were destroyed as well and some back room supplies. Unfortunately the man died during impact. None of our employees were hurt and we will be closed for the time being. We will keep everyone updated as we have more info.
