The prestigious Michelin Guide continues its North American expansion, adding three new Florida destinations in 2025: greater Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach County, and Pinellas County. This move follows the guide's expansion to other major US cities and regions in recent years, reflecting the growing culinary scene across the country.

One of the world's most prestigious culinary guides, the Michelin Guide , continues to expand its presence in North America. This week, the guide announced its plans to include three new destinations in Florida in 2025. Restaurants in greater Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach County, and Pinellas County, home to Clearwater and St. Petersburg, will be added to the selection, joining the already recognized Miami, Orlando, and Tampa areas.

This Florida expansion will ultimately become a statewide guide starting in 2026. Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guide, expressed his excitement in a news release, stating, 'Florida continues to raise the bar with its emerging culinary talent, international influences and the palpable passion of its local restaurant communities.' He further noted, 'Over the past three years, we've seen the Florida selection grow and strengthen as our inspectors shined a spotlight on their discoveries. We look forward to exploring these new destinations and highlighting the excellence of their local restaurant scene.'The Michelin Guide's journey in North America began in 2005 with the release of its first guide for New York. Since then, 14 more guides have followed, predominantly in the post-pandemic era. Guides were introduced for San Francisco in 2007, Chicago in 2011, Washington, D.C., in 2017, and California in 2019. Five regions – three in Florida and two in Canada – received their own guides in 2022, marking a significant expansion. Miami, Orlando, and Tampa were the initial Florida representatives, while Canada made its debut with Toronto and Vancouver. Michelin Guide spokesperson Carly Grieff explained to Fox News Digital that 'Inspectors evaluate the main major culinary hot spots for the inaugural selection' before establishing a new guide in a particular state or country.Grieff added that 'as the Michelin Guide works on a long-term scale, we observe very often the extension of its geographical scope within a country, a region or a state over time, which is evident in the expansion to three new destinations for the 2025 Florida selection.' The latest expansion presents a valuable opportunity for restaurants in these areas to earn a coveted Michelin star, considered one of the most respected and influential restaurant rankings alongside Zagat. A three-star rating represents the pinnacle of culinary excellence. Michelin Guide inspectors visit restaurants anonymously and assess them based on criteria including the quality of ingredients, mastery of flavor and cooking techniques, the chef's personality reflected in the cuisine, the value and consistency between visits, as outlined on their website.Inspectors are actively scouting locations and making dining reservations in the new territories, according to a news release. While the Michelin Guide has its sights set on further expansion, Grieff stated, 'we don't have any news to share about new guide destinations in North America at this time.
