Joy Greene decided to take part in 'Virgin Island' because she wanted to confront her fears, anxieties, and challenges surrounding sex and relationships. At university, she was often seen as 'the weird one' because she remained a virgin and experienced the scorn from people who found her 'mystery' intriguing. But the biggest challenge got harder once she realized that she was actually bisexual, which further compounded her religious beliefs and self-worth issues.

Throughout her three years at university, Joy Greene became accustomed to being seen as 'the weird one'. Despite being pretty, articulate, and charismatic, Joy arrived a virgin because she was a Christian and believed in waiting for the right person.

Her decision to remain 'pure' was met with scorn from many, who perceived it as a 'mystery' they had to solve. She suffered from vaginismus, a condition that caused painful sex and sexual activity for her. Joy decided to take part in the documentary reality TV show 'Virgin Island' to confront her anxieties and undergo therapy.

The therapy sessions were 'hands on' and encouraged her to explore her intimate areas in full view of the documentary cameras, leading to a transformative experience for her
