Additionally, captive populations of the mahogany glider can be observed at David Fleay Wildlife Park and Cairns Tropical Zoo, both of which are involved in breeding programs dedicated to the preservation of this species.

Believed to have vanished for the better part of the 20th century due to an absence of sightings spanning decades, its unexpected reappearance in 1994 stunned conservationists.
