Jane Street, a Wall Street market maker, reported record trading revenue of $16.1 billion in the first three months of the year, with profits more than doubling and revenues up 40% from last year. The firm, known for its medium-frequency trading strategies and AI company stakes, cemented its position at the top of the market maker industry. The performance boost was attributed to market volatility and the value of its stakes in AI firms.
Jane Street pulled in a record haul of $16.1 billion in trading revenue for the first three months of the year, as the Wall Street market maker benefited from bouts of increased market volatility and a jump in the value of its stakes in AI companies.
Meanwhile, its profits more than doubled to $10.3 billion, with revenues up more than 40% from the same period last year. The firm’s latest performance was boosted by its medium-frequency trading strategies and its stakes in Anthropic, Nvidia-backed CoreWeave, and other AI companies. Market volatility tends to benefit trading desks at large banks and algorithmic trading firms as investors adjust portfolios to hedge against risks.
While Jane Street has not taken on any outside capital, its capital structure allows it to take larger positions when providing liquidity and hold such positions through periods when such risks pay off.
