Verstappen Encouraged by RB22 Progress After Miami GP

Max Verstappen finished fifth in the Miami Grand Prix but expressed optimism about recent upgrades to his RB22 car. He felt more in control and comfortable during the race, noting significant improvements after a period of struggling with the car's handling. While acknowledging Red Bull still has work to do, Verstappen is pleased with the progress made and his ability to drive more effectively.

Max Verstappen ’s result in Sunday’s Miami Grand Prix was only fifth position, there was a wild spin as he lit up the rears exiting the first curve in the closing laps, and a left-field tire strategy that didn’t quite pay off.

But after a trio of difficult grands prix Verstappen was clear of the midfield – having qualified in second place – and back nearer the sharp end of the field. He has been encouraged by the progress made with the RB22 during the spring break.

“A few things have changed, and it made it a lot more comfortable to drive,” Verstappen said. “Over those last few weeks the team has been pushing flat out to try and bring upgrades to the car and making me feel more comfortable with a lot of things in the car, and it really pays off. “Before, nothing really worked. I felt like a total passenger in the car.

It could understeer, it could snap on me, it could feel different from one session to the other one without even touching parts. So, we understood a lot of stuff.

”Verstappen stressed that Red Bull is “still not where we want to be in terms of understanding everything” but that he can “finally drive how I want to drive, also with my steering inputs, and that helps a lot,” while pointing out that as a new power unit manufacturer Red Bull is on a bigger learning curve than its front-running counterparts.
