AKRON , Ohio - The Akron man convicted of killing his wife in 2025, will be sentenced in Summit County Court of Common Pleas Thursday.
Lagway was found guilty on the following charges:Detectives say they identified her domestic partner, Rasheed D. Lagway, 43, as a person of interest. Lagway’s trial started on April 6, and on April 7, the victim’s son took the stand.
“Rasheed Lagway’s actions were not an accident—they were a deliberate act of violence that cost Kristina Smith her life. Kristina was deeply loved, and our sympathies remain with her children, family, and friends as they continue to grieve this profound loss,” said Summit County Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich. In October 2025, Smith and Lagway were at the bar she worked when Lagway got upset after seeing an interaction between Smith and another patron.
When they returned home, Lagway assaulted her and Smith fled from the home, ran to a nearby McDonald’s and called a friend. Smith was then dropped off at the Dollar General, where she also worked, before going to friend’s house to spend the night. An autopsy revealed Smith died as a result of four broken rib tips that lacerated her spleen, causing her to bleed internally throughout the day.
Warrants were issued for Lagway, and several days later, he was arrested by the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force.
