Taral Patel, who is running for Fort Bend County Precinct 3 commissioner, claimed in September he had received a slew of racist messages from Facebook users.
Taral Patel , a Democratic Texas county commissioner candidate, is reportedly facing a felony charge after allegedly falsifying racist social media attack s against himself.condemning several racist messages he allegedly received.
The post included a collage of messages from Facebook users, some of which had their names censored. “As your Democratic candidate for County Commissioner, I am always open to criticism of my policy positions and stances on issues,” Patel wrote. “However, when my Republican opponents supporters' decide to hurl #racist, #anti-immigrant, #Hinduphobic, or otherwise disgusting insults at my family, faith community, colleagues, and me - that crosses a line." Fort Bend County's diversity has made us all stronger, and these hateful images are from a place of deep and misguided fear - incited by people like former President Donald Trump and today's extremist Republican party fear that immigrants are "taking their jobs" and setting out to hurt our own communities,” he added. Fort Bend County Precinct 3 Commissioner Andy Meyers, the Republican incumbent, requested an investigation by the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office into the source of the messages, ABC13. Investigators reportedly say they uncovered that one of the accounts which allegedly messaged Patel had information matching the Democrat's personal information, such as his phone number, address and driver’s license number. The Texas Department of Public Safety reportedly arrested Patel Wednesday on a third-degree felony online impersonation charge and a Class A misdemeanor misrepresentation of identity charge. Officials set Patel's bond at $20,000 for the felony and $2,500 for the misdemeanor, ABC13 reported.“Patel garnered widespread news coverage for claiming that racist social media posts were made against him,” it reads. “Now, based on the arrest warrant and much like Jussie Smollett, it appears that Patel used a fake Facebook account to send racist messages to himself and then blamed his political opponents.” Whether Republican or Democrat, such tactics should be unequivocally condemned by all who value integrity and accountability in politics,” the GOP added.Jackson Walker on X at @_jlwalker_ for the latest trending national news.
