Texans can look up a police officer's background with this new tool

Texans can now look up a police officer’s license, employment and training history online without filing a formal records request. The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement announced this week a new online tool, called the Public License Lookup , that grants access to more immediate information about various public employees, including law enforcement officers, county jailers and 911 dispatchers.

The tool, created as part of legislation last year to reauthorize the law enforcement commission, appears to include a wide range of law enforcement agencies, including city department, county sheriff’s officers and mass transit agencies. Users must register an account to access records.
