The expansion triples frozen food storage capacity for the Baldwin County food bank, officials say.
The 24-foot by 24-foot room will help the pantry provide healthy food to Baldwin County residents in need. Officials said the new freezer room triples the pantry’s capacity to hold healthy frozen foods, which are often available in bulk at low prices.
“When someone thinks about a food pantry, they think about someone distributing spaghetti and sauce and peanut butter and jelly,” said Prodisee Pantry Executive Director Deann Servos. “But Prodisee Pantry is committed to healthy food. That means milk, eggs, meat.
All of those require cold and frozen storage”The expanded capacity also meets the growing need for food as Prodisee Pantry moves forward with Prodisee Pantry North, which offers north Baldwin residents easier access to food and connections to other social services.
