Amy Thoms gets to share her love of numbers, shapes and theories, and at Montgomery Catholic, she said she can also share her faith.
Amy Thoms teaches 7th through 9th grade honors geometry and 10th grade geometry at Montgomery Catholic. She’s been at the school for five years, but the Decatur native has called the River Region home for much longer.
“Well, my husband was transferred down here over 20 years ago to work, and so we have just stayed in the area,” Thoms said. Thoms is a Decatur High School graduate who attended Mississippi State. She started teaching in Tennessee and has taught at Sidney Lanier High School and Prattville High School before joining Montgomery Catholic. She has been teaching for 18 years total.
In the classroom, she gets to share her love of numbers, shapes and theories. At Montgomery Catholic, she said she can also share her faith.
“I can express my faith, I can lead them towards the Lord, and this just gives me the opportunity to do that which I think is a higher purpose,” Thoms said. She’s also able to watch them walk and step into their calling. May is graduation month, a time when high school seniors say goodbye. For Thoms, the class of 2026 is extra special, with her only son also walking across the stage this year.
