Residents on Potomac Avenue say their neighborhood has declined over the years, with abandoned homes and illegal dumping becoming regular problems.

EAST CLEVELAND , Ohio - Residents on Potomac Avenue say their neighborhood has declined over the years, with abandoned homes and illegal dumping becoming regular problems. A home at the entrance to the East Cleveland neighborhood off Hayden Avenue has been left to crumble, setting the tone for what you will find on the rest of the street.

“That house on the end, it’s all torn up, it used to be a beautiful house a long time ago, but look at it now, if I had a bulldozer, I’d tear it up right now,” one resident said.One said she moved in and raised a family that moved out long ago.She said the illegal dumping has ramped up in the last two years as properties have declined. “Her family and friends don’t come over, she don’t want to invite them over because it’s an embarrassment,” the other woman said. “When I come in the morning, it’s already there, so I think they come at night.”They claim calls to the city go unanswered. 19 News reached out to the city and talked with the council clerk, passing along requested information via email about the neighborhood.“I really want to sell my house, but who gunna buy it?” one resident said.Student dies after shooting herself in cafeteria of Valley Forge High SchoolFather kills 7 of his children plus another child in shooting after domestic dispute, police sayAkron police release details after a 2-year-old killed in SUV power-seat incident6-year-old boy shot at Joe E.
